Peter Checkland is a researcher and Professor of Systems (Emeritus) at Lancaster University Management School’s pioneering Department of Systems Engineering and Management Science. He led a programme of action research and developed emerged a fully developed Soft Systems Methodology (SSM). Rather than attempting to map the real world, his models are devices for learning about the real world.
