Membership Policy and Guidelines:

These Membership Policy and Guidelines applies to membership in the Global Association for Systems Thinking®, including access to the Community of Excellence User Forums and Global Resource Portal.

I. Membership

Membership in the Global Association for Systems Thinking® (GAST) is open to any person, association, organization, or other entity having an interest in our vision, mission, core values, and goals. We are a global Association.

1.0 Membership Terms

1.01 Joining GAST. A person seeking membership will be accepted as a member of GAST upon submission and processing of the required online application and annual fee. You must provide appropriate, accurate, and up to date information.

1.02 Types of Membership. There are two types of GAST membership. They are (1) individual membership and (2) practitioner/educator membership.

1.03 Membership Fees. GAST membership fees are subject to change.

1.04 Renewing Membership. Membership is renewable annually. You will be contacted through email approximately four weeks in advance to renew you membership.

1.05 Transferring Membership. Association membership is not transferable.

1.06 Terminating Membership. GAST reserves the right to deny membership, or cancel membership, if a member has breached the terms of this agreement.

2.0 Services

The Association is dedicated to providing its members with premier content, useful applications, and services on Systems Thinking.

2.01 Use of Services. In order to use GAST services, which include the website, Global Resource Portal, and Community of Excellence User Forums, you must accept this Registration Agreement.

2.02 Service Changes. GAST is continually developing and improving our content, applications, and services. Changes may occur with or without prior notice.

2.03 Risk. GAST services are for use at your discretion and risk. GAST is not responsible for your use of products and services as well as damage to your computer system or other device or loss of data.

3.0 Membership Account

3.01 Username. All GAST members can choose their own unique username for their account. We prefer that you use your actual name as your username, as it aligns with our core value of transparency.

3.02 Password. All GAST members can create their own unique password (minimum 8 letters or numbers) for their account. We highly recommend choosing a password with adequate complexity. This will help keep your account secure and prevent account theft. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account.

3.03 Profile. After you register and login, you will be able to fill out a detailed profile. It is your responsibility to present clear, accurate, and up to date information.

3.04 Unauthorized Account Use. If you become aware of unauthorized account use, please contact the Administrator immediately.

4.0 Privacy

The Global Association for Systems Thinking® is committed to safeguarding the privacy of its members.

4.01 Personal Information. GAST never rents, sells, trades, or shares personal information of its members with third parties outside of GAST and its ownership.

4.02 Revealing Identity. In the event of a formal complaint or legal action, GAST reserves the right to reveal your identity (or any other related information collected).

4.03 Website Privacy Policy. We want all users to always be aware of any information we collect, how we use it, and under what circumstances (if any) we disclose it. Read our Privacy Policy.

4.04 IP Address. We do record your IP address with each forum post. This is done for important reasons. In extreme cases it may become necessary contact ISPs of forum users who have violated the terms of this agreement.

4.05 Cookies. The Association’s Community of Excellence User Forums software uses a cookie, a text file containing bits of information (such as your username and password), in your browser's cache. This cookie is only used to keep you logged in or out. The software does not collect or send any other form of information to your computer.

5.0 GAST Brand

5.01 Use of Logo and Trademarks. Specialized, written agreements only allow for use of the Global Association for Systems Thinking® logo, trademarks, and other distinctive brand features.

5.02 Alteration of Logo and Trademarks. Removing, obscuring or altering the GAST logo and trademarks are strictly prohibited.

6.0 GAST Liability

6.01 Validity of Posts. GAST moderates each Community of Excellence User Forum as well as recommendations to the Global Resource Portal. We unfortunately can not confirm the validity of every post. As a result, the Association can not be held liable for the content contained within the User Forums or Resource Portal. We do not warrant the accuracy, completeness, or usefulness of any information presented.

6.02 Views of GAST. The posted messages on the Community of Excellence User Forums do not necessarily represent the views of the Global Association for Systems Thinking®, its staff, or its subsidiaries.


II. Guidelines: Community of Excellence User Forums

1.0 Use of Forums

The Global Association for Systems Thinking® (GAST) provides its members with over forty-five, high quality forums for discussions on Systems Thinking applications, tools, and actions. These Community of Excellence User Forums are the best place to share, learn and collaborate with others regarding Systems Thinking (human/social systems).

2.0 Moderation of Forums

GAST wants the best quality content and discussions in every Community of Excellence User Forum. Thus unlike social media and chat rooms, discussions are moderated by mastery level Thought Leaders. These individuals oversee each, respective forum.

2.01 Thought Leaders. Each Community of Excellence User Forum has one Leader-Moderator and one Co-Leader-Moderator. Each individual is a GAST approved, master-level, Thought Leader. Overall these leaders are qualified with a specialized Systems Thinking background, industry experience, and education, who understand and utilize applications of Systems Thinking. Leader-Moderators and Co-Leader-Moderators oversee their forums and further discussions, applications, and actions with Systems Thinking.

2.02 GAST Administrator. The Administrator enforces the forum rules and manages all recommended resources. He or she removes objectionable and offensive posts as well as prohibited material. In such cases, posts will be deleted within a reasonable time frame as it is manual process. This policy applies to member profile information as well.

3.0 Posting Do’s

3.01 Do Provide Quality and Premier Thinking and Applications. The GAST User Forums are a professional Community of Excellence. Thus we require serious, ethical, and professional conduct at all times. We want every Forum user to strive to provide the best, most intelligent quality of discussion, applications, and actions for the forums.

3.02 Do Keep an Open Mind. Let’s always try hard to understand the other person’s point of view.

3.03 Do Stay on Topic. Keep to the forum topic purposes, desired outcomes and “Helicopter View” in mind at all times.

3.04 Do Ask Questions. All forum users are free to propose new questions, topics, or issues for other users to discuss. Please refer all of these new inquiries to the appropriate forum Thought Leader. He or she will coordinate new items to build and facilitate Systems Thinking tools and actions in order to assure quality control.

3.05 Do Collaborate. Let’s collaborate with others in furthering practical and simple Systems Thinking tools and applications. Take action and apply Systems Thinking to real world issues that affect you.

3.06 Do be Accountable. Forum users may post comments at any time and are solely responsible and accountable for their posts, messages, and actions.

3.07 Do Contact Us. Anyone who feels that a posted message is objectionable or offensive is encouraged to notify the GAST Administrator immediately.

4.0 Posting Don’ts

4.01 Don’t Post Prohibited Material. GAST prohibits material which is false, defamatory, inaccurate, abusive, vulgar, hateful, harassing, obscene, profane, sexually oriented, threatening, invasive of a person's privacy, adult material, or otherwise in violation of any International or United States Federal law.

4.02 Don’t be Rude. We encourage debating and discussion. However, we will not tolerate rudeness, insulting posts, or personal attacks.

4.03 Don’t Spam. Spam, flooding, trolling, piracy, hacking, viruses, worms, warez, chain letters, pyramid schemes, solicitations or any other activity that interferes with or disrupts the forums (or servers) is not allowed.

4.04 Don’t Advertise Non-Systems Thinking Applications. Advertising and promotion of commercial and non-commercial products or services which are NOT directly related to Systems Thinking and its applications is prohibited.

4.05 Don’t Use Analytic Thinking. Let’s keep piecemeal, mechanistic and analytical thinking to a minimum. Be a Systems Thinker, it’s not as easy as you think.

5.0 Copyrights and Intellectual Property

5.01 Copyrights and Intellectual Property. GAST welcomes all Systems Thinking material, that you own the copyright to or you have written consent from the owner of the copyrighted material. It is our policy to respond to all notices of alleged copyright infringement. Our forum server is hosted in the United States of America and is subject to US law. GAST asks that you follow all copyright, digital rights laws.

5.02 Information Origins. Information that you have access to on the GAST Community of Excellence User Forums or Global Resource Portal is the sole responsibility of the person and/or organization which the information originated.

6.0 Bridge Calls

All forum users will have access to a free bridge call line. Bridge-calls are held on an as needed basis by the Thought Leaders. Such calls are done through Eagle Teleconferencing in New York. Participants only pay for their own phone bill costs. Contact Jayne Haines, GAST CFO, for more details.

7.0 Safety

The Global Association for Systems Thinking® is dedicated to creating and maintaining safe User Forums for discussions, sharing, learning, collaborating, and taking action to achieve better more sustainable results.

7.01 Personal Information. Any information that is disclosed on our Forums becomes public information. Please exercise caution when deciding to disclose your personal information.


III. Affiliate Program Terms of service

To be an authorized affiliate of www.globalast.org, you agree to abide by the terms and conditions contained in this agreement.

By using this Web site, you are agreeing to comply with and be bound by the following terms of use. Please review the following terms carefully. If you do not agree to these terms, you have no right from GAST to obtain information from or otherwise use this Web site. Failure to use this Web site in accordance with the following terms of use may subject you to severe civil and criminal penalties.

1.0 Introduction

You agree to the terms and conditions outlined in this Terms of Use Agreement ("Agreement") with respect to this Web site (the "Site"). This Agreement constitutes the entire and only agreement between us and you, and supersedes all prior or contemporaneous agreements, representations, warranties and understandings with respect to the Site, the content and computer programs provided by or through the Site, and the subject matter of this Agreement. This Agreement may be amended at any time by us from time to time without specific notice to you. 4.0 Limited Right to Use

The viewing, printing or downloading of any content, video, audio, graphic, form or document from the Site grants you only a revocable, nonexclusive license for use solely by you for personal, noncommercial purposes limited to the use as is reasonably required to view and listen to the content and navigate through the pages and links generally available to the public using a standard Internet browser and standard media player, and not for republication, distribution, assignment, sublicense, sale, preparation of derivative works or other use. No part of any content, graphic, form or document may be reproduced in any form or incorporated into any information retrieval system, electronic or mechanical, other than for your personal, noncommercial use (but not for resale or redistribution).

5.0 Editing, Deleting and Modification

We reserve the right in our sole discretion to change, edit or delete any documents, information or other content appearing on the Site.

6.0 Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend and hold Global Association for Systems Thinking® and their respective directors, officers, shareholders, employees, agents, attorneys, advertisers, and publishers (collectively, "Our Affiliated Parties") harmless from any liability, loss, claim or expense, including reasonable attorneys' fees, related to your use of the Site or violation of this Agreement.

7.0 Unsuitable sites include, but are not limited to, those that:

  • Infringe trademark rights of any third party or otherwise violate the rights of any third party
  • Contain sexually explicit materials
  • Contain hate/violent/offensive content
  • Promote discrimination based on race, sex, religion, nationality, disability, sexual orientation, or age
  • Promote illegal activities or otherwise violate any applicable laws, including those targeting “spyware,” “adware”, or SPAM
  • Violate any intellectual property rights, including, without limitation, scraping text or images from GAST’s Website
  • Do not clearly state an online privacy policy to their visitors
  • Otherwise are considered offensive or inappropriate at GAST’s sole discretion
  • Use fraudulent means to prompt clicks

8.0 Nontransferable

Your right to use the Site is not transferable. Any password or right given to you to obtain information or documents from the Site is not transferable.

9.0 WARRANTY DISCLAIMER AND LIMITATION OF LIABILITY

THE COMPUTER PROGRAMS, INFORMATION AND OTHER CONTENT AVAILABLE FROM OR THROUGH THE SITE ARE PROVIDED "AS-IS," "AS AVAILABLE," AND ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, ARE DISCLAIMED. We provide such third-party links only as a convenience to visitors of the Site, and the inclusion of a link does not imply approval or endorsement of the linked site by us. If you decide to leave the Site and access any third-party Web site, you do so at your own risk.

11.0 Information and Press Releases

The Site may contain interviews, discussions, press releases and other information (collectively, "Information") about us, our business and our services, including links to third-party websites that contain such Information, which are being provided as a convenience to visitors of the Site. While all Information prepared by Global Association for Systems Thinking® was believed to be accurate as of the date prepared, we disclaim any duty or obligation to update any Information. Statements concerning companies other than Global Association for Systems Thinking® that are contained in any such Information should not be relied upon as being provided or endorsed by us. The opinions expressed in any Information, including by employees and agents of Global Association for Systems Thinking®, are solely those of the author(s) and do not necessarily reflect those of Global Association for Systems Thinking®.

12.0 Export Control

Any text, logos, designs, graphics, images, sounds, information, documents, or other materials (collectively, "Materials") available from or through the Site are or may be subject to United States export controls. No such Materials from this site may be downloaded or otherwise exported or re-exported (1) into (or to a national or resident of) Cuba, Iran, Iraq, Libya, Sudan, Syria, North Korea, or any other country to which the United States has embargoed goods; or (2) to anyone on the U.S. Treasury Department's list of Specially Designated Nationals or the U.S. Commerce Department's Table of Denial Orders (each, a "Restricted List").   3. Global Association for Systems Thinking® is free to use in any manner all or part of the content of any such communications on an unrestricted basis without the obligation to notify, identify or compensate you or anyone else; and

You grant Global Association for Systems Thinking® all necessary rights, including a waiver of all privacy and moral rights, to use all comments, feedback, information, or materials, in whole or in part, or as a derivative work, without any duty by Global Association for Systems Thinking® to anyone whatsoever. We do not accept unsolicited ideas, works, or other materials, and you acknowledge that you are responsible for and bear all risk as to the use or distribution of any such ideas, works, or materials. Global Association for Systems Thinking® expressly prohibits the scraping of email addresses from any Global Association for Systems Thinking® Web site (including all areas of this Site - member and non-member) and expressly opts out of receiving commercial electronic mail messages to Global Association for Systems Thinking® domain email addresses that were obtained in violation of the foregoing or by use of automatic address-generation software.

14.0 Miscellaneous

The Site may be accessed from different locations around the world and may contain references to Global Association for Systems Thinking® services, and programs that have not been announced where you are located. These references do not imply that Global Association for Systems Thinking® intends to announce such products, services or programs where you are located. This Agreement shall be treated as though it were executed and performed in San Diego, California, and shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the United States of America and of the State of California (without regard to conflict of law principles). Any cause of action by you with respect to the Site (and/or information, documents and other materials contained therein) must be instituted within one (1) year after the cause of action arose or be forever waived and barred. All actions shall be subject to the limitations set forth under "WARRANTY DISCLAIMER AND LIMITATION OF LIABILITY" above. The language in this Agreement shall be interpreted as to its fair meaning and not strictly for or against you or us. You expressly submit to the exclusive personal jurisdiction and venue of the Superior Court of Santa Barbara County and the United States District Court for the Central District of California with respect to all matters relating to this Agreement or your use of the Site, and consent to extra-territorial service of process in connection therewith. Should any part of this Agreement be held invalid or unenforceable, that portion shall be construed consistent with applicable law and the remaining portions shall remain in full force and effect. To the extent that anything in or associated with the Site is in conflict or inconsistent with this Agreement, this Agreement shall take precedence. Our failure to enforce any provision of this Agreement shall not be deemed a waiver of such provision nor of the right to enforce such provision.
